Govt to give smartphones, tabs in schools, colleges

The three-day Grameen Smartphone and Tab Expo 2016 kicked off in the city on Thursday in a bid to give the users first-hand experience of smartphones and tablet computers.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the event at a function as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
Addressing the event, Palak said the government has a plan to provide smartphones and tablet computers in the computer labs of schools and colleges in the future so that students can be acquainted with the new and suitable technologies.
He also said the government has another plan to launch a project under which apps for computers, tabs and smartphones will be developed locally, considering local context, and global apps will be contextualised.
He also called for mobile phone importers to introduce Bangla operating software for smartphones so that the devices become more popular in the country.
This is the 5th event of its kind organised by Expo Maker. The local and international technology brands showcasing the digital devices with special offers and gifts at the event.
Countries top mobile operator Grameenphone is the title sponsor and Elite, Huwaei, Samsung and Symphony are the co-sponsors of this expo.
There are many renowned brands already participating at the event. Some of those are- Samsung, Symphony, Huawei, Elite, Helio, Stylus, Goldberg, ASUS, Lenovo, MyCell, TwinMOS, Prestigio, Xiaomi, Gionee, Gadget Gang 7, Meizu, etc.
The fair has one mega pavilion, eight pavilions, five mini pavilions and 10 stalls. There is a media booth with wi-fi connection for journalists at the expo. Everyday fair will continue 10 am to 8 pm until January 9.
On the occasion of the fair, from the official facebook page a large number of audiences can participate in ‘STE Quiz Contest 2016’. From this contest, participants can win Samsung, ASUS Zenphone 2, Elite Mobile and Huwaei Handset.
