State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the government plans to create 100,000 jobs in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector in the next six years.

At a post-BPO Summit 2015 press conference at his office on Wednesday, Palak said, “The growth rate of this business in our country is 100 percent. Our aim is to boost revenue from this sector to $1 billion and create 100,000 jobs by 2021.”

Adding that one does not need to be an engineer or a programmer to pursue an ICT-based career, he said, “Those who are running law firms in London or New York can set up call centres in Bangladesh only for scheduling appointments.”

Regarding the ‘Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT)’ project, the minister said, “We have ensured employment for 7,000 people through a Silicon Valley-based firm under the LICT project.”

The BPO Summit 2015 was held on December 9 and 10. 74 experts from home and abroad spoke there.

Palak added that the government plans to organise the next BPO summit on July 28 next year.
