Government to launch domestic workers’ helpline

The government has decided to launch a helpline for domestic workers.

The Cabinet approved the draft of Domestic Worker Protection and Welfare Policy-2015 on Monday afternoon.

While briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam said the policy for domestic workers has been prepared in line with the Labour Act.

He added that the government will form a series of programmes to raise awareness for tackling torture on domestic helps.

Under the existing law, those who will violate the human rights of the housemaids will be punished.

According to the policy, Labour Welfare Foundation will manage the domestic workers.
